Silly Little Wounds

After the drama director of Park River High School passes away, six former theater students reunite in their hometown for the funeral. Setting aside the demands of marriage, children, and careers for the weekend, the once close-knit group slips back into familiar routines.

Tori, who tends toward self-destruction, seeks solace with her old love, the dependable Nathan. Former best friends, the perfectionist Kate and the overwhelmed mom Sienna, attempt to mend their friendship, while the playful Brandon, who once dated both, stirs up emotions. April, a goth kid turned teacher, tries to keep the group united as her own relationship struggles.

As alcohol flows freely and inhibitions drop, the six friends discover how much of their teenage selves they still carry into adulthood. Tensions rise, old romances reignite, and minor old wounds resurface.

Vanessa M. H. Powers is a prolific and award-winning film director who has been creating films professionally since 2014. Her company, the Oxford Comma Film Cooperative, has explored a range of topics from comedic to poignant, covering nearly every genre imaginable. Vanessa and her team consistently produce character-driven, thought-provoking, and stylish narratives, with just enough Midwestern charm to make you say ‘ope.’ Her films have been showcased at festivals nationwide and internationally.

In addition to her film career, Vanessa is a theater director, artist, coffee lover, and occasional human being. She is often found attempting to be in multiple places at once. She serves as the resident director at St. Matthew Community Theatre in Columbia Heights and has worked with Lakeshore Players Theater and Cross Community Players. She has also independently produced theatrical work under Oxford Comma Theater. In her (clearly abundant) free time, she enjoys spending time with her supportive family, friends, and her snort-tastic bulldogs.
